Editor in Chief
Solange Peters, MD PhD, is Medical Oncology Service Chief - Associate Professor - Chair of Thoracic Oncology, Chief Resident in charge of thoracic malignancies, Oncology Department, University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV).
Dr. Peters received her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She then worked on HIV drug resistance and completed with the MD PhD degree in 2002. She was fellow at the Faculty of Internal Medicine and at the Multidisciplinary Oncology Centre, both at the University Hospital of Lausanne from 2002‒2006. She gained board examinations in oncology of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) in 2006/ 2012 and of the Swiss Society of Medical Oncology (SSMO) in 2006. In 2013 Solange Peters received the title of Lausanne University Private Docent (PD-MER).
Research activities and publications
Her main field of interest is the discovery of new biomarkers and their validation in preclinical and clinical settings. Moreover, she is involved in multimodality trial building for locally advanced NSCLC and cancer immunotherapy.
Dr. Peters serves as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology (JTO), the official journal of International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). She is Editor-in-Chief of the Cancer Treatment Communications and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Oncopathology. She is Editorial Board Member of the European Medical Journal Oncology and Targeted Oncology. In addition, Dr. Peters acts as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology of Anti-Cancer Drugs and as ESMO Guidelines Editor for thoracic malignancies. She published around hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Peters acts as reviewer for national funding societies and international oncology journals.
Committees and Advisory Boards
Dr. Peters is member of numerous professional societies. She acts as Board of Director Member of the ESMO and the IASLC. She is Foundation Council Member, Scientific Coordinator and Chair of Information & Communication of the European Thoracic Oncology Platform (ETOP). She serves as President of the Association Romande pour la Formation continue en Oncologie Médicale (FOROME), Vice President of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK) and the Swiss Society of Medical Oncology (SSOM). Furthermore, Dr. Peters is member of the Association of Swiss Physicians (FMH), the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and the Association of Swiss Interns and Residents (ASMAC/VSAO).
She chaired the ESMO in 2014 and the European Lung Cancer Conference (ELCC) in 2016. Since 2010 Dr. Peters is Co-Chair of the annual meetings of the SAMO. In 2013 she was Swiss Post-ASCO Co-Chair (American Society for Clinical Oncology). Dr. Peters will be Scientific Chair of the incoming ESMO 2018.
